This condo bathroom was fully functional but no longer usable for the client. The customer is elderly, and despite the existing tub being low-profile, getting in and out safely was no longer possible. Like many people in similar situations, a choice had to be made: keep a tub, or continue aging comfortably at home. The client chose the latter.
The space was tight and could not be expanded. Being a condo unit, the only proper way to build a safe, long-lasting shower was a full gut renovation. Comfort and usability were the priorities, but that didn’t mean sacrificing appearance. This project demonstrates that safety and good design don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
We completed a full tub-to-shower conversion, fully waterproofed using Schluter systems. The shower features slip-resistant floor tiles, a low entry threshold, an integrated grab bar, and double bypass sliding glass doors for easy access. Large-format, neutral tiles create a calm, timeless look, while the compact vanity and wall-mounted medicine cabinet maximize storage without crowding the space.
Waterproofing is never visible, but it is the foundation of everything we do. Installing tile is not waterproofing — it’s a finish. In this condo, wall depth limitations meant the shower niche could only be placed on the valve wall, carefully positioned between the shower head and controls. A portable teak shower stool was chosen instead of a fixed bench, giving flexibility without sacrificing safety.
From the beginning, expectations were clear. We don’t upsell, and we don’t promise what can’t be delivered. This is an old-school approach: honest conversations, realistic planning, and work done properly. Not every client wants to be on camera, and that’s okay. What matters is the outcome — a bathroom that works, and a genuinely happy customer.
